Ever wonder what things were like at BHS in the first 50 years and beyond?Article Two : Our New School
Title : Bowmanville High School 1880-1990 : One Hundred Years
Copyright 1990, Bowmanville High School Yearbook CommitteeFor a long time an addition to the School has been a necessity and it is well
for us that there were men of both ability and foresight to meet this great
need. The new building is modern in every way and is, I believe, one of the
finest, for its size, in Ontario. In the basement is the much dreamed of gymnasium which is already well
equipped. The "gym" is very popular both with the boys and the girls and has
certainly not been left idle. The cloak rooms in the basement have been transformed
into dining rooms equipped with tables and benches. Between these two rooms
a small room has been fixed up as a kitchen. In it there is an electric stove, sink,
tables, bread box, etc. The country pupils at B.H.S. have been able to prepare
hot noon lunches. Only those who have been eating cold lunches can fully
appreciate how much this has meant. On the first floor there are two classrooms and the auditorium. The classrooms are equipped with every modern device buth hygenic and educational. The auditorium has a seating capacity of about four hundred and has a large stage and two dressing rooms. This room has been used a great deal for social functions of the school. On the second floor there are two classrooms of the same design as those
already mentioned. There are also two small but compact teachers' rooms
and two laboratories, one for chemistry and one for physics. These laboratories
are a long step in advance to the one previously used and show great foresight.
There are also two commercial rooms which have not been used this
year but which we expect will be used next year.Should not any pupil be proud to attend such a school and should not any
resident of Bowmanville and surrounding district take great pride in such a building?W.R. (currently unknown who these initials stand for)
